Cybill Shepherd Biography


In the half-hour comedy series "Cybill" on CBS-TV, three-time Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee, Cybill Shepherd, stars as Cybill Sheridan, a forty-something actress trying to keep a career afloat in an industry that worships youth. Cybill Sheridan's life is extremely full, with two very independent daughters, two ex-husbands who always seem to be around, Deniroand a best friend whose sardonic wit can slice through any situation. A native of Memphis, Shepherd won "Model of the Year" in 1968 from Stewart Models and has appeared on the covers of Life, Vogue, Glamour, and People magazines, among others. She moved to Los Angeles for her film debut in the highly acclaimed "The Last Picture Show," which led to starring roles in "The Heart Break Kid," "Taxi Driver," "Daisy Miller," "At Long Last Love," "Silver Bears" and "The Lady Vanishes."
After ten years of modeling and acting, Shepherd returned to her roots in Memphis on the advice of Orson Welles to focus on her career. Her credits included starring roles in "Shot in the Dark," "The Seven Year Itch," "Last of the Red Hot Lovers," Lunch Hour," "Vanities," and "Picnic." After relocating back to Los Angeles, she starred in "Moonlighting" with Bruce Willis, for which she earned a number of honors. In addition to three Golden Globe Awards for best actress in a television comedy, she won four People's Choice Awards and was honored with Willis as "Woman and Man of the Year in Broadcasting" by the Hollywood Radio and Television Society. Shepherd has starred in numerous acclaimed television productions, including the television movies "While Justice Sleeps," "Baby Brokers," "There Was A Little Boy," "Stormy Weathers" (which she also executive produced), "Which Way Home" for TNT, and the mini-series' "The Long Hot Summer" and "Telling Secrets" with Ken Olin. Additionally, Shepherd executive produced, co-wrote and starred in "Memphis," based on Shelby Foote's novel September, September.

Singing Career Additional feature film credits include "Once Upon a Crime," Woody Allen's "Alice," "Married To It," "Chances Are," and "Texasville" (which dealt with the characters thirty years after "The Last Picture Show" concluded). Launching her singing career at the age of eight by performing with her church choir, Shepherd has performed sold out concerts throughout the country, blending rock, blues, ballads and standards. She has recorded six albums, including "Mad About the Boy" with Stan Getz. Her last album, "Somewhere Down the Road," featured a title cut by Peabo Bryson. Her most recent album, "Talk Memphis to Me," takes her back to her roots of down-home Memphis-style rythm-and-blues. Shepherd is the L'Oreal spokesperson for the hair division, the national chairperson of the Christmas Seals Campaign and the national chairperson of the American Lung Association. A mother of three, Shepherd is a nutrition and physical fitness enthusiast. Her special interests are race walking, swimming and bicycling. She recently became engaged to Robert Martin, who co-wrote and co-produced her most recent album and is the musical director on "Cybill."
